The Moonlight Beach tides can completely change your experience. At low tide the sand stretches wide and tide pools become exposed for exploration. At high tide the water comes closer and the waves are at their most powerful for surfing. The Tidelines Calendar includes detailed monthly tide charts so you can choose the right time for every activity.

How the Calendar Works

Each page of the calendar covers one month. You will see a table with the date running down the left side. Next to each date there are columns showing:

• High Tide Times and Heights so you know when the waves will be at their fullest.

• Low Tide Times and Heights for the best tide pooling and beach walks.

• Sunrise and Sunset times so you can catch golden hour or a peaceful early morning.

• Moonrise and Moonset times for magical moonlit moments.

• Moon Phases including full moons, new moons, and quarters so you can plan for special nights when the moon over the ocean is at its brightest.

Tide heights are measured in feet. Higher positive numbers mean more water on the beach. Lower numbers or negatives mean more sand is exposed.

How to Read It for Your Beach Day

The tide and moon calendar can tell you a lot more than just water levels — it’s your guide to making the most of Moonlight Beach.

• Tide Pools: Look for the lowest tide times, especially those with negative numbers, and plan to arrive about 30 minutes early. That’s when tide pools are at their best.

• Surfing: Check the high tide times and match them with the swell direction from the surf report. A sunny or calm day paired with the right tide makes for ideal conditions.

• Moon Watching: Moonlight Beach faces west, so you won’t see the moon rising over the ocean — it rises inland to the east. But once it climbs higher, the moon shines across the Pacific and sometimes even sets right into the horizon. For the best experience, catch it high over the water or plan to watch a moonset.

• Sunrise & Sunset Walks: Low tide paired with sunrise or sunset creates wide sandy stretches perfect for long, glowing walks.

💡 Moonlight Beach got its name back in the early 1900s, when locals gathered here for late-night picnics and midnight swims by the light of the full moon. The wide sandy shoreline and gentle waves made it the perfect spot for evening gatherings, and the name has stuck ever since.
